Dreams

The world never ceases to amaze me. The same world that can give me hope also make me feel hopeless.

In my world of movies, I come across so many people and their stories of struggle. They all inspire me because they show me individuals who believe so strongly in their dream that the faith and hope that they have can keep them going for years. And sometimes, the way the world treats dreamers makes me feel hopeless, angry and all the emotions on the negative scale.

One day, an old man walked into our office. You could see that he had done this before and had walked from office to office before finally landing at ours. He was old enough to not understand the technology of email and had handwritten a story he felt the world deserved to know. He handed his handwritten script to us as if he were handing over his new born baby. We read it and wondered if he could mail it to us since he was waiting the entire time we read the script, without any lunch or water around late afternoon. He said he didn't have a computer or internet. He then started telling us his story of his journey towards achieving his dream. It seemed like he was just waiting for someone to listen to his story.

He told us his story and it broke my heart. He said he went from place to place to get people to listen to his story. Some people even took money from him promising to fulfill his dreams. He had spent his entire life's savings on it and was no where near fulfilling his dream.

We secretly helped him with a few contacts but that was all we could do for him.  He thanked us for listening to him and walked away. Watching him walk away was both heart breaking and inspiring. Heart breaking because there were people out there that were willing to play him using his dream. A dream is what keeps one going. The reason for them waking up each day with something to look forward to and it is sad that people would play with that. And inspiring because even at that age, he was working towards his dream. No matter what obstacles, he still had fight left in him. And until he had faith in his dream, he didn't even need hope. Because he had faith.

And that's how I know that one day I'll see his name on screen one day as a writer.
