The circle....
She entered alone. Her mother had left her hand and was standing outside the gate. She had to take the journey from the gate till the classroom alone. She had never been alone. She was scared. She looked back to see her mother waving to her. She looked towards the class and started walking. When she looked back her mother was gone. She started to cry.....
When she entered the classroom, she saw kids her age. "Maybe it won't be such a bad place to spend time," she though. And it wasn't.
She made two friends that made school a better place. Although they were part of a larger group, they liked hanging out together when no one else was around. They ate lunch together, crashed at each others homes for a sleep over, did their summer projects together, decided which chapters they would study, spend hours discussing what they studied, went to the same tutions, same parties and had the same set of friends. Where the other was, you could be sure to find the third member. They had countless photographs, their parents had each others numbers programmed in their own phones, their drivers knew when the three got together, they were in for trouble. The mothers knew that when the three got together, they would have to shell out a lot of money for food, or spend hours preparing food for the three little monsters. The younger siblings had three elder sisters, and the parents had extra daughters.
The last day of school was difficult for them. They didn't know if their paths would be the same. She looked back at all the fun times she had in that school. She couldn't hold back her tears. Seeing her cry, the other two started to cry too. They hugged each other and promised each other they would be friends forever.
That was seven years ago.
And their promise lasted. For a while.
They texted. They facebooked. They called. They tried hard to make each other a part of their new world. Their status messages would read about how much they missed each other. Their texts had more hearts and kisses than it had words. They put up countless photographs and always looked forward to when they would all be in the same city.
The promise did not last long.
They were all back in the same city. They had all been in the same city for a year. Plans were made to meet, but they were always cancelled. But today, no one was able to come up with an excuse good enough to cancel.
Her mother dropped her off. She was waiting for her to cross the road. She was scared. But she knew she had to make this journey alone. She looked back to see her mother waving to her. She looked forward to where her two "friends" were sitting. When she looked back her mother was gone....and she wanted to cry.
