My friends have played a very important part in my life. They have been those people who neded no words to tell me they cared for me, the reason I hoped tomorrow would be a batter day, a reason to smile and the reason I lived.
So this blog entry is for a very very special friend of mine...This one is for you Swathi, for all the fifteen years we spend together and for another hundred that we will.
You would probably wonder how anyone could have borne me for 15 years right? Sometimes I wonder too. But then all it takes is one walk to convince me...we walk down the same path which bought us closer. LKet me explain
Swathi and her elder sister Preeti akka (now mine too) lived near school. Preeti, her friends, Swathi and me would walk back from school together. We would all walk to Swathi's house back laughing, teasing and trying to pull each others leg.
Soon Preeti akka left school. MY walks with Swathi however, continued. Soon 9th class came and we joined tution. We would walk to tution together and walk back after tution. Although Krutika,Swathi and I were always close it was this one incdient which still plays in my mind.
After tution was over, Krutika would leave for her house as she lived in the opposite direction. Sometimes me and Swathi would walk home, but most of the time we would take an auto.
That was pretty difficult considering the fact that the distance was pretty short.
One day as usual we hailed an auto.
"Where do you want to go?" the auto driver asked us.
" Venkatramana colony" Swathi replied.
"Ten rupees" replied the auto driver turning the meter.
"The meter says eight rupees. Why should i pay you extra?" I interupted before Swathi could say anything.
" Tanvi I will pay but please lets go home. I cant walk anymore. " Swathi told me.
You can go. We will find another auto. I confidently told Swathi and the auto driver both.
But as we walked ahead my confidence diminished. We kept walking but no auto would come for 8 rupees.
I thought swathi would be really mad at me. We reached her house panting and puffing....
I didnt want to look at her...but I did. And then...we both burst out laughing. We laughed and laughed for ten minutes. We tried to catch our breath but we couldnt.
And you know why the incident stands out so vividly in my mind? Not because Swathi is my bestest friend, or because it was one more memory to add to my mind...but because it was one of those moments when we actually laugheopenly, forgot our worries, and when distance didnt seperate us....
Miss you Swathi....
